Bringing Back The Boswellia Trees

A tree native to India, Boswellia serrata has been used by the people of Madhya Pradesh and in Ayurveda for centuries. The Boswellia serrata trees are known to take an average of 12 years to mature and require a resting period after harvesting the Boswellia serrata gum resin. Because of their maturation and resting periods, as well as increasing consumer demand, the population of these trees can inevitably dwindle.

In tandem with our ongoing sustainability initiatives, we have partnered with local tribes to plant approximately 30,000 Boswellia serrata tree saplings within the next three years to protect and regenerate these sacred Boswellia trees. The new Boswellia tree saplings are planted to ensure each tree gets the resting period it needs post-harvest, while providing a layer of financial security to the tribal families who protect them during these resting periods and who rely on them to earn a living for future generations. Further, by planting new saplings, we help protect the quality of the harvest by ensuring the gum resin is coming from the true Boswellia serrata and not other varieties found in the area, adding an additional layer of trust and sustainability.
