Protective effects of a red maple (Acer rubrum) leaves extract on human keratinocytes against H2O2-induced oxidative stress.

Ma H et al.
FASEB J. 2018 Apr 20. Vol 32(No 1_supplement): 656-33. Poster Presentation at Experimental Biology 2018 Meeting.

Cosmetic applications of glucitol-core containing gallotannins from a proprietary phenolic-enriched red maple (Acer rubrum) leaves extract: Inhibition of melanogenesis via down-regulation of tyrosinase and melanogenic gene expression in B16F10 melanoma cells.

Ma H et al.
Archives Dermatol Res. 2017 May. 309.4 (4): 265-274. EPub 2017 Mar 10. doi: 10.1007/s00403-017-1728-1
GCGs show anti-tyrosinase activity via tyrosinase inhibition, reduce melanin content in melanoma cells, reduce the level of reactive oxygen species, down-regulate the tyrosinase-related gene (MITF, TYR, TRP-1, and TRP-2), and down-regulate protein expression (TRP-2 gene). The combined mechanistic attributes have been shown to elicit skin lightening/brightening effects.

Glucitol-core containing gallotannins inhibit the formation of advanced glycation end-products mediated by their antioxidant potential.

Ma H et al.
Food Funct. 2016 May 18. 7(5): 2213-2222. doi: 10.1039/c6fo00169f
Maplifa’s GCGs showed superior activities compared to the synthetic anti-glycating agent, aminoguanidine, at the early, middle, and late stages of glycation; in short, exhibiting protective effects against glycation-induced skin aging and promoting healthy skin aging. GCGs have free radical scavenging activities. Maplifa® reduces HO-induced oxidative stress in human keratinocytes (HaCaT) cells.

Unpublished Data. Manuscript under publication.

GCGs inhibit elastase enzyme activity, which improves & boosts the skin’s elasticity for dermal support and a youthful appearance.
